The 20th IBRC will feature a number of fun social events!
The Welcome Mixer (Sunday afternoon, 3 August), Mentor Lunch (Wednesday, 6 August), and the Gala Dinner (Friday, 8 August) are already included in the registration fee for the students (or those unemployed) and regular registration tickets, but not the one-day registration. Tickets are available for purchase for one-day registrants and accompanying people.
We also have a "Bat Trivia Night: Bat-tle of the Brains" event (Thursday, 7 August) at Wharf One Café, Trinity Wharf, Cairns (price AU$20 pp.; places limited). |

Canapes and drinks will be served.

Mentor Lunch
Sign up as a mentor or mentee for the IBRC Mentor Lunch (timing TBD)—an invaluable opportunity for students and early-career researchers to connect with senior researchers, leaders, and inspiring figures in the bat world over a relaxed networking lunch. Whether you’re seeking career advice, new collaborations, or just great conversation, this is your chance to engage with experts in an informal setting. Don’t miss this opportunity to build meaningful connections that can shape your future in bat research and conservation!

Bat Trivia Night
We’re looking for the best bat brains at the Battiest Trivia Night this year!
Enjoy a batty evening in an iconic café overlooking Cairns Trinity Inlet pitting the world’s best bat brains together in this fun-filled Bat Trivia Night. |
Form a team with your colleagues or join a new group of people and make life-long friends! Questions will range across bat-trivia over the 1400+ species, but there might be a slight bias toward local species. So put your thinking bat caps on and pay attention to the presentations! There may even be questions on some bat people as well! There are some great prizes for the winning team and runner-ups.
Wharf One Café specialises in locally produced food and can cater for all dietary needs. Try a special Flying FoxTail cocktail or mocktail, produced specifically for this event.
This event is a fund-raiser for BatSoc and all proceeds (minus the booking fee) will go to assist with the costs of feeding bats in care. Each year up to 500 orphaned spectacled flying-foxes are found in the greater Cairns region and Tablelands and raised by carers before being creched in either Kuranda or Tolga Bat Hospital for release back to the wild in Kuranda and Atherton.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the venue.
Tickets will run out quickly for this event, so book soon!
