Travel grants

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors we are delighted to be able to offer a limited number of travel grants to assist with the cost of attending IBRC 2025.
Applications for travel grants are now closed. We received a huge number of applications and applicants have been informed of the outcomes.

The travel grants are competitive, but we hope to award a travel grant to as many eligible applicants as possible. Travel grants are available to individuals that would benefit from attending IBRC 2025 but the costs are currently prohibitive. The travel grants also aim to increase the diversity of attendees, whose research and insights would enhance the IBRC 2025 program.

Students, attendees from developing nations, and low-income attendees are invited to apply. ‘Low-income’ is self-assessed, and those who would be unable to attend without some financial assistance are welcome to apply. This might include those who are currently unemployed, someone who works predominantly as a conservation volunteer, or those experiencing financial hardship. Due to the generosity of sponsors, we are also able to offer specific travel grants for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Pacific Island-based Attendees.
Travel Grant Streams
In total, there are five travel grant streams
  • Attendees travelling from Australia and New Zealand can apply for up to AUD$1,000 to offset the costs of travel, accommodation and/or registration. These grants are sponsored by Dr Lindy Lumsden and The Bat Co. Lab. Two of these grants are specifically for New Zealand-based attendees and are sponsored by The Bat Co. Lab.
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander attendees can apply for up to AUD$1,500 to offset the costs of travel, accommodation and/or registration. These grants are sponsored by SaffronAid.
  • Attendees travelling from locations outside of Australia and New Zealand can apply for up to AUD$2,000 to offset the costs of travel, accommodation and/or registration. These grants are sponsored by Dr Lindy Lumsden.
  • Early career researchers from developing nations, who will participate in the Key Biodiversity Areas workshop (as well as the full conference) can apply for up to AUD$2,000 to offset the costs of travel, accommodation and/or registration. These grants are sponsored by The Rufford Foundation.
  • Early career researchers and those from underrepresented backgrounds can apply for a travel grant of US$500. These grants are sponsored by the Bat Biology Foundation.

You do not need to select a specific stream, as your answers to the questions below will determine your eligibility for each stream. Attendees may be eligible for more than one of the above streams but only one travel grant per person will be awarded.
