In short, Visa options depend on the passport you hold, and there are three main streams that apply to international visitors attending a conference in Australia.

The table on the right shows countries that are eligible for visa streams 1 and 2. Countries not listed in the table need to use stream 3.  Visitor Visa - subclass 600.

​1. Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) – Subclass 601

• Application Process: Apply through the Australian ETA App 
• Processing Time: Many applications are granted in minutes; however, some may require additional processing.
• Validity: Allows multiple entries for stays up to 3 months per visit within a 12-month period.
• Cost: AUD $20 

2. eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651)

• Application process: Apply online through the Department of Home Affairs website.
• Processing Time: Typically processed within 1–2 business days.
• Validity: Permits multiple entries for stays up to 3 months per visit within a 12-month period.
• Cost: No application fee.

3. Visitor Visa – Subclass 600

• Eligibility: For travellers not eligible for an ETA or an eVisitor (Subclass 651)
• Application Process: Apply online via the Department of Home Affairs website.
• Processing Time: Varies; 90% process within 15 days
• Validity: Allows stays of 3, 6, or 12 months, depending on individual circumstances.
• Cost: AUD $190
